She was recently diagnosed with cancer (Wilms Tumor) and had started treatment. Part of the treatment is to undergo surgery and have the primary tumor removed- as much as safely possible, that is. Unfortunately, when the surgeons opened her up (abdomen) they discovered the tumor was huge and attached to many of her organs. They were unable to remove it and unable to close her belly up. Her surgery was on 7/2 and she was intubated for the surgery and has not been able to be extubated because the tumor is pressing against her lungs. She is basically in a medically induced coma.⠀ ⠀ Holly is the daughter of an alumni that attended the same high school as Andrew’s dada- Tim. I’m so heartbroken for her parents. The idea of sitting in the PICU for weeks watching their daughter seemingly lifeless just crushes me. Just like us, their world changed in an instant. But right now, the disease itself isn’t even the scary part. It’s whether or not they can shrink the tumor fast enough to relieve the pressure on her organs. She is currently receiving ICE chemo which is a strong chemotherapy combination. It’s what Andrew received after each of his relapses and it worked very well for him. The problem with cancer treatment is that it doesn’t work the same for every patient. I’m praying so hard that she will be as blessed as Andrew to have this combo work to shrink the tumor enough to remove it.⠀ ⠀ Please pray for sweet Holly!! Please pray God give her a second chance at life and give her family the strength to get through this critical time and the next several months of intense chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
