It took me years as a plus size Black woman to learn that I am beautiful.
.
It took me years to realize that I am worthy of an incredible life.
.
It took YEARS to get noticed in the plus modeling industry.
.
It took more years to be taken somewhat seriously as a Plus Size Black Model.
.
One thing I mentioned to the @Sports Illustrated Swimsuit team when I auditioned last year was how beautiful it was to see the world adapting to inclusive acceptance and diminishing exclusive assimilation.
.
However, it is incredibly hard to watch the world embrace everyone else except you.
.
That’s how a lot of us Plus size Black women feel.
.
We constantly feel looked over and passed on simply because of our size and skin.
.
The fashion industry can not claim inclusivity but still exclusive by race, size, & colorism.
.
So when SI told me I was apart of the top 6, I literally could not believe it!
.
We BARELY get chosen for such iconic projects, so when it happens. It’s kind of like a “is this a joke? Is this real life?” Type of moment.
.
I’m honestly still in awe of everything. However, behind the awe is infinite gratitude.
Because moments like this will change someone’s opinions on their appearance, mindset, and beauty.
Moments like this will teach young Black Girls that they too can reach for the stars like everyone else.
.
We must support brands like @Sports Illustrated Swimsuit that spark massive change like this. @mj_day and the massive all women team behind SI knows that all of us desire to shine and be able to deem ourselves worthy.
.
And for that alone, I couldn’t be happier to be apart of the family.
.
This is just the start for me and I’m aiming higher than I did before.
.
My younger self deserves it.
My future self deserves it.
And every Queen that once lacked confidence deserves it too.
