And boy did they come - on the first flight that opened from Taiwan, 18 hours across the other side of the world, through a pandemic, quarantine, and Covid test — they still came... And they got to hold their grandson in the end. As for me, I never ate better my whole life. Here’s a sample week: Day 1: Lion’s head meatballs (made with mom’s secret ingredients: tofu) with cabbage and vermicelli  Day 2: Tomato and tofu egg drop soup in dashi Day 3: Pork belly slices with bitter melon  Day 4: Braised eggplant and lardon noodles (recipe from great grandma) with a side of veg  Day 5: Medley of stir fry from tofu and wood ear mushrooms to beef and shishito peppers Day 6: Sichuan-style “salivating chicken” with numbing spices and peanuts  Day 7: My turn to cook brunch with a tomahawk steak, rigatoni in crushed tomato sauce, and cucumber salad with sour cream and dill  My son - I hope you remember how lucky you are.
