Wallpaperさんのインスタグラム写真 - (WallpaperInstagram)「The Wallpaper* #ArchitectsDirectory has turned 20, and to mark the occasion we catch up with some of our over-500 alumni.⁠ ⁠ First featured in the 2004 directory, Japanese architect Hiroshi Sambuichi has been researching the unique characteristics of the endemic architecture on the small island of Naoshima in the Seto Inland Sea for a decade. He was intrigued by the many old minka (the local traditional farmhouse vernacular) dwellings and the fact that they all shared many similarities that pointed towards a common understanding of what had worked architecturally on the island for generations. ⁠ ⁠ The Water pavilion is his latest addition on the island campus, the Naoshima Plan. Created for the Setouchi Triennale and now made permanent, ‘The Water’ pavilion uses the water from an old well in the central courtyard of a renovated post-office to create a large artificial pond that helps to cool the indoor/outdoor space.
