Infant orangutans stay in close contact with their mothers for a long time. For the first two years of an infant orangutan’s life, he/she is completely dependent on their mother for food and transportation. The baby clings to the mother's body while she moves through the trees and feeds on her breast milk. In fact, orangutan offsprings have been observed being carried until they are 5 years old and be breast-fed until they are 8 years of age!
