Big hugs to my talented Cousin Ed who is making a tough life experience into art. I can’t wait to see his finished film. Sadly it’s a story many Americans can relate to.

............Posted @withregram@eddietunes Four years ago yesterday my mom was taken from me unexpectedly. It was by far the biggest loss of my life. We did not have it well during her final years. She was a brittle diabetic and poor. My parents had long been divorced, and I am an only child, so it was just the two of us. Me being a cook/comedian at the time I did what I could to help, but we all know how famously busy, and broke young comedians are. My mom was desperate for anyway to make ends meet.
Diabetes is a brutal and expensive disease. The average diabetic in America spends $16,000 a year on their disease. When you're making $30,000 a year that just doesn't add up. It also makes you the perfect target to get taken advantage of by the sharks in our society. Banks, Check cashing stores, casinos, medicare, car payments, even your own spouse can look to make you high and dry. The desperation I was talking about earlier turned even more deadly when she developed a gambling addiction to try and solve her financial problems. So I'd help her out the best I could. I just had my first tv gigs, so I gave her that money to get even. It happened again and again. It was awful. She now had a second disease.
Then after that started happening my mom used have a blood sugar monitor that was taken from her because she could not afford to buy it outright when her work changed insurance providers. They wanted $800 for a machine that was working for her over a year. At that point $800 might as well been $8,000. The machine was simple if her sugar dropped it would beep and she'd know to either drink orange juice or take insulin. But one after the machine was taken from her she did not wake up.
I usually don't write about this online that much, if you've listened to my podcasts you know who she is and what we went through. There is a lot more to it than this, so I took her life insurance money, enlisted my boy @travisirvineusa to help me tell this story. Well we finished editing it during quarantine (
