What I did know was that I wasn’t going to let anything stand in my way! See, at the age of 17 I decided that I would not drink alcohol. I told myself that I was going to give myself every chance in the world to be successful and not sabotage myself. Many young people don’t accomplish their goals in life because they aren’t willing to make sacrifices. When you’re an athlete all you have is your body, so you have to always put the right stuff into it. For over 25 years that is what I have been doing. That is one of the main reasons for my success, how I took care of my body! How did that 17 year old kid know? How was he so focused and driven? I’m so thankful for young Ray! Today is my 45th birthday and I salute my 17 year old self. I wish I could go back in time and shake his hand because without his sacrifice and determination I would not be where I am today. When we are young we don’t look like much, that’s why it’s easy for people to tell us that we can’t do something or won’t be something. You have to envision what your future self looks like and then you go transform yourself. A caterpillar can’t fly, but the butterfly that he turns into can! Greatness is the simple stuff done over and over again! Be consistent in your lives, use the haters to motivate you and do the things that other people aren’t willing to do!
