Over 17 years of service MSG Marckesano served in the 82nd Airborne, 75th Ranger Regiment, and Army Special Forces as a Green Beret. Andy deployed numerous times to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as well as to Central and South America. Even in a community of elite warriors Andy was distinguished as a Silver Star recipient and more notably as a well respected, and often admired, teammate, operator, leader, and friend. Andy passed away on July 7, 2020 leaving behind 3 young children. Riley (9), Andrew (7) and Madeline (4). All three shared a special and unique bond with their father who loved them fiercely. Riley, has his big blue eyes and deep soul. They bonded over movie nights and daddy daughter dates. She loved any alone time she got to spend with just the two of them. Drew, Andy's namesake, has always wanted to be just like his dad. He memorized the Ballad of the Green Berets before he was 3 years old. He speaks about his dad like he was someone larger than life, and would even start conversations with strangers saying "my daddy is stronger than yours." Madeline made Andy melt. She could soften his heart, even on his worst days, just by sitting in his lap and giving him kisses. Not a day will go by that his children won't miss their father. Their love for him is eternal. The memory of Andy will live on through them, and his family will continue to honor his legacy by living a life that would make their father proud. There is always something to be said about military children. They are confident, acclimated, brave, caring, and strong. Even with all of these attributes, there are some things children should not endure, and too often that is grieving the loss of a parent. Riley, Andrew, and Madeline are just beginning to leave their mark on the world. They are left to navigate a life without their father, their protector, their hero.
