“Chille ch’e’ ncuolle a ‘tte n’e’ rroba toja”: @RiccardoMariaChiacchio’s latest work is about the Neapolitan identity and the importance of roots. “This project was on my mind for a very long time, it came very naturally in a moment of my life/career where I felt that I wasn’t being sincere with myself and had the urge to produce images that I could relate to day by day. It's an autobiographic project divided in chapters where my relationship with my hometown Napoli is the focus. I always talk about it but I was in fact missing a visual evidence of it. The title means “What you’re wearing isn’t yours” and I got it from the first ever recognized Neapolitan song sung in Neapolitan language from the late 1200s which was a chant that washerwomen in Napoli would perform whilst working. In this first chapter I focused on connections: between me and my family, my relationship with clothes and the acceptance of my roots. I also want to show how proud I am and how proud everyone should be of their Mediterranean features such as curly dark hair or big noses.” Read the full Q&A with the artist by @ChiaraNonino via link in bio.
