I could tell you that I wear a mask because it is a basic question of hygiene. We don’t question the practice of washing our hands after using the bathroom. I could tell you that I wear a mask as a form of respect for fellow humans. I don’t know the health circumstances of the people around me. Or who in their lives may be vulnerable. I could tell you that I wear a mask for the same reasons I appreciate people refraining from smoking indoors or covering their mouths when they sneeze. We understand germs and pollutants in the air can cause serious damage to those around us. But these are not the reasons I wear a mask. Every day, every time I step out of the house I wear a mask for reasons much more selfish than those I listed above. I wear a mask because I want a better life for my son. Because my son has yet to live a life without the shadow of Covid-19. Aside from his parents, my son hasn’t met a single member of his family and I don’t know when he will. He hasn’t been able to go to the park or the zoo or on a play date. I haven’t been able to share him, I haven’t been able to see the world through his eyes, because the world is too dangerous for him to experience. The top CDC experts say that if we were all to wear masks we could get Covid-19 under control in a matter of weeks. Given this fact, how is mask wearing debatable? If wearing a mask bothers you, I understand! It is uncomfortable. For those who say they have trouble breathing while wearing a mask I say that you are exactly who should be worried about contracting a vicious respiratory illness. If you want your life to go back to normal, to be able to go to your favorite restaurant again, to the beach, to work, or to send your kids back to school, the most logical way to expedite that is to wear a mask. We have an opportunity to do something that is irrefutably selfless and will ultimately benefit all of us and all it requires is a piece of cloth. Do us all a favor and wear a damn mask.」7月17日 22時58分 - amandaschull
