I’d stretched our already meager budget to pay for the extra silk to accommodate the growing life and promise inside my womb. We are different. I’m guided by my heart and he is pragmatic. Decisions come quick and easy for me, while he is careful, considerate. Family and commitment have been our guiding force together from the beginning. We welcomed two babies and lost one before we moved for dental school, returning home with three children, a cat, a degree, and a fortune of student loan debt. We live precariously in the town we grew up in. Together we borrowed some more and bought his practice before we could buy a home, solidifying our future as well as commitment to the public school system. For as long as we’ve been functioning adults, we have played by the rules. I birthed my babies in hospitals and then signed them up for little league.
