Tip 1️⃣- Allow the subject to stand prominently: “With the hair being a long straight look, I wanted it to be captured to look healthy and full, so I used a lot of light with an almost overexposed feel. I really wanted her to be separated from the space almost as if she was floating Notice how in the frame her body moves from one side to the other, taking up part of the 3 vertical sections in the 3rds. It makes her feel strong and confident.” Tip 2️⃣- Find the contrast: “Because of the wraparound windows in this room, there was a lot of natural light, but it was an overcast day, so I utilized the natural soft box the heavens provided. The room was designed like an igloo which was pretty cool; The floor and the ceiling were all white polished ceramic tile, so it was bouncing light around like crazy. I chose to use that to my advantage and mounted a speed light at about 3/4 stops and pointed in at the ceiling at around 160°. I wanted to keep the contrasting elements as they are, which play a huge part in my composition.” Tip 3️⃣- Break up the negative space: “I wanted to capture the polarizing energies between twins, a sort of alter ego concept. The use of space is always important, and in this image, it allowed the light and prop to be in the frame without being a distraction as it sits to the right of the models. This allowed them to be engaged in the left and center vertical thirds.
