I was sad, slowly slipping away internally, and started every day with a swig of vodka. I had never even had a drink until I was 27... and only a few years later, it had become the only way I could process what my life had become. Shadow seemed happy to just have a warm bed, food to eat, and a backyard to play in. So many nights I’d sob on the bathroom floor, knowing my life was a broken mess... and he’d come and simply just curl up next to me, sometimes urging me to throw his toy. Fast forward to now... I’m married to my best friend Pamela. We live with my mom as we figure out our next chapter in life, and Shadow has the best mom he could have ever dreamed of (and a dad that doesn’t start each day with a drink). My eyes don’t look so sad anymore. I’m older... wiser... and have a lot more gray hair. Shadow has the gray just like me... but still has the spirit of a puppy. Life knocked me down. I had committed to things and decisions that didn’t line up with my core values... and it became my downfall.
