In the weeks leading up to New York's FY2021 budget vote, I got my actions from a group of activists in the theater community connected to @changethenypd. They set up Zooms where we heard directly from #defundNYPD #NYCBudgetJustice organizers, and we received email updates on what kind of support the campaign needed leading up to the vote. (Calls to make, social media posts, etc.)
Now they are creating a mailing list for future actions that will come from @changethenypd @jfrej & other NY grassroots orgs calling for just housing, education, healthcare, food security, or safety from deportation.
I'm signing up and sharing with other New Yorkers who want to do the same. There's more info at the link, see if it feels right for you. Over 200 orgs make up @changethenypd—this is just one way to support their work. 🌟
