Last night, U.S. Representative Ayanna Pressley (@repayannapressley) delivered a rousing address during PlayerTV’s YouTube special, #SayHerName: Justice for Breonna Taylor. Pressley touched on how the legal system has failed Taylor thus far, and how Black women are often excluded from the narrative of police brutality in America. “There can never be justice, but there must be accountability, and that will not exist until we end qualified immunity,” she said. In response to the highly publicized cases of police brutality in the past month, Pressley, along with Representative Justin Amash, has introduced the Ending Qualified Immunity Act, which seeks to end the qualified immunity doctrine as grounds for defense for those officers who violate the law. Pressley continued, “Breonna Taylor was an essential worker, but more than that, her life was essential because of who she was to her family. And despite the fact that Black women—that we have been the truth tellers, the table, shakers, the disruptors, the preservers of democracy, the most reliably voting constituency—we are rendered invisible.” For more of what Pressley had to say, head to the link in our bio. #SayHerName #JusticeForBreonnaTaylor
