In between our desperate need to fight for and to fix all that is badly broken in our society, there are still celebrations to be had, personal milestones to be acknowledged, joys to experience and life to live while you are still here to live it. The polarities in everything occurring right now are painful to process to say the least. Watching our outdated constructs and carefully curated identities being burned to the ground, no matter how necessary can take its mental toll, no matter who you are. My appreciation for my family, and the friends who have shown up for me in the biggest and littlest of ways during this insane time is profound. Every day that I get to open my eyes and say thank you for our health is a gift, for the roof over our heads, our children laughing in the next room or a random text asking if I’m ok. These little seemingly insignificant things have become my daily medicine. Nothing, no matter how small is lost on me right now, and for that the only word is gratitude. Especially for my husband @frankrust the man who took this photo of me standing on the porch of our favorite cabin on the first night of our 26th year together. A man who never forgets the joints or the cork screw, reminds me that love is an action, always gives me the benefit of the doubt and tells me nicely when I’m fucking up. Who has seen me in every which way but has only ever wanted to see me truly happy. 2020 you’ve been a doozy and with so many people suffering it feels strange to be reveling like this, but I refuse to allow you to take something this special and hard won from us.
