One in four LGBTQ+ people are discriminated against simply because of who they are. But did you know that discrimination covers every aspect of a queer person's life? For example same sex couples are 73% more likely to be refused a mortgage than heterosexual couples. It’s legal in most US states for financial institutions to let gender identity or sexual orientation influence their decisions on giving loans, or credit cards, and even if LGBTQ+ people do get loans or other banking products, it can be at higher rates than for straight people, and there is no legal recourse to this prejudice. Not for long! I’m so excited to tell you that I am the Honorary Board Chair of Superbia, the first-ever safe space for LGBTQ+ people to get financial products and services, free from the risk of discrimination!
