But when the bandaid fades
The cut remains

Then they tell you that they only need one person
who looks like you

They’ll tell you you’re beautiful

Then they tell you that your hair is unacceptable.
Choose your hair or your history

But when you act a fool
It’s their victory

When you choose your history, your culture, your people
Know that a bridge has been burned

But you didn’t start the fire.

Some days you feel a change
You’ll see familiar faces and new friends
But you’ll never see the same side of the coin in the end.

Those Who gave all that they had and a little more
To stand next next to someone who got a lucky break

Being average is a luxury not many of us can afford
