サラ・マイアーさんのインスタグラム写真 - (サラ・マイアーInstagram)「💭💭💭 Watching Athlete A on Netflix made me very sad and thoughtful. So depressing and unimaginable what those gymnast had to go through. And aside from the monster that doesn‘t even deserve to be named, I was also shocked about the culture of fear, oppression and punishment from the coaches. As more and more athletes - also from skating and other sports - are coming forward with the truth about cruel training methods, I feel different things: I applaud them for speaking up and I admire their bravery. And I feel very, very lucky myself. I know first hand that coaches can be strict, but empathetic at the same time. They can push you to your limits - and respect you and your feelings nonetheless. Yes, an athletic career IS hard. Yes, it‘s a struggle sometimes, it‘s injuries, sweat, tears and pain. It’s a lot of sacrifices. BUT it can be fun, fulfillment, freedom, laughter, tears of joy - all at the same time. Sadly my case seems to be the exception rather than the rule. So I want to thank my team of coaches, trainers, therapists and also my family, that they supported me, knew when to push and when to comfort me and treat me with respect. They not only stood by me when I succeeded, but when I fell and failed, every step of the way. And most importantly, they wanted me to succeed and grow - not only as an athlete, but as a human being. I might not have an olympic or world medal, but I want all the kids, athletes and their parents to know: IT IS possible to have a decent sports career with this approach. 📸 With my aunt & coach Evi Fehr before Euro 06 long program #sportscareer #thoughts #figureskating #coaching #development #training #athletes」7月3日 4時11分 - sarah.van.berkel
