I feel like I only see blissful appreciation posts for relationship milestones like this, but i think it’s also important to share that while marriage has been great, it definitely has not been easy. We have actually had a rough couple of years, for a multitude of reasons that we both contributed to. What we REALLY want to share is how much going to therapy together helped us. We had been going for about four months before the pandemic hit, and I can’t imagine how our quarantine would have been if we hadn’t built up a new and healthy base for us to stand on. The reason I’m sharing this is to try to help normalize the idea of going to therapy/couples counseling. It doesn’t mean there is something wrong with you, or that you are going to get divorced. It can mean that you are just in a rough patch and you want a little help navigating your way through it. It gave us the space to discover what we needed to say, say it, and feel heard. And even more than that, we both learned a lot about ourselves. We’re each in individual therapy, but we also achieved our own break-throughs in couples counseling. A lot of the stuff we learned has helped not just in our relationship with each other, but also our relationships with other people, and with ourselves. Honestly, I can’t recommend it enough. And once quarantine started, we were in such a good place that we were able to stop doing sessions together. The nice thing to know is that it’s always there, and if things get hard again in the future, we can always go back. THERE IS NO SHAME IN IT. We found our therapist through the Ackerman Institute, which is specifically known for training family and marriage counselors. They have therapists practicing all over, and you can find them using the search tool on their website: https://www.ackerman.org/ I’m so glad we went, and I’m so glad to be able to say that we’re in an even better place now than we were when we got married. That’s definitely something to celebrate. Thanks @natedoggfromiowa for putting in the work. I love you.」7月3日 1時21分 - myladalbesio
