ディプロさんのインスタグラム写真 - (ディプロInstagram)「I’ve been reflecting a lot over the past month about what I can do to be a better ally to my Black and brown friends and to my LGBTQ friends too, and to queer Black and brown people everywhere. I’m always trying to be better and educate myself about what these communities need from us, their allies, but I also know that there are so many great organizations doing the work already. I will be making a donation to @theokraproject —an incredible food justice initiative by and for Black trans people. I posted a similar message during Pride month before but I still think it's a good reminder. Imagine music today without the contributions of LGBTQ people, and specifically Black LGBTQ people. In my generation alone we wouldn't have the foundations of house music, Baltimore club, New Orleans bounce or even the genesis of hip hop (learn the history). I would probably still be mowing lawns in Florida. I wouldn't have my own opportunity to study and create music. Queer people all over the world have shared so much brilliance with me. Pride month isn't just parades and resistance but it's about a generation of fearlessness and innovation. This month is also about empathy and awareness. We should all fight for equal rights for everyone (it's not just a privilege, but a responsibility), but also protection. I’m making a commitment to be engaged in supporting various organizations that uplift marginalized communities in a variety of ways for many years to come.
