Anyone else curious about that door? An exclusive suite, maybe? That was my initial thought, but it turned out that the rooms in the central part of the bridge were used as prison cells and torture chambers in the 19th century and during the Spanish Civil War.
Ernest Hemingway writes in his classic "For Whom The Bell Tolls" that prisoners were thrown off the bridge during the Civil War. Whether this is true, however, has not yet been clarified.
Today the rooms are used as a museum that displays the bridge‘s rich history. Photo and caption by @lennart
