It is impossible to overestimate the contribution of Black people in our industry; Black culture has inexorably shaped the trajectory of nearly every musical genre. Most artists, including myself, simply would not be here without it. The time to truly acknowledge this fact is long overdue. In this moment where terrible tragedies have awoken much of the world to the injustices committed casually against Black people every day, it is our duty to keep the positive momentum that has come from it going, and help our Black brothers and sisters achieve parity and justice. The music business should be a shining example of reform to other industries. Acknowledging and making amends for both historic and ongoing inequalities, and creating a path forward to ensure they never occur again, is our highest calling.
