The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (@missingkids) has been working overtime during June as it’s #InternetSafetyMonth, but moreso, because in just the first week that COVID-19 started wreaking havoc in the United States, the CyberTipline saw an absolute explosion of activity with over 30,000 reports in that one week alone. Since then, NCMEC has experienced a 126% increase in CyberTipline reports from 745,391 reports in May2019 to a staggering 1,688,109 in May2020. This is beyond scary for our kids. Please join me in supporting awareness and education efforts and visit www.missingkids.org and click on NCMEC’s NetSmartz online safety education program that provides age-appropriate videos and activities to help teach children how to be safer online, with the goal of helping them become more aware of potential risks and empowering them to help prevent victimization by making safer choices- on- and offline.
