Things are no longer as they were and a new level of awareness is taking hold- an awareness of how the fabric of our society is delicate and intricate and needs to be strengthened with more empathy, understanding and most importantly action. I recently watched a movie about the AIDS crisis called “The Normal Heart”. Watching how generations of LGBTQ+ men and women struggled and paved a path forward struck me deeply and made me feel even more grateful for the life I am able to live today. This post is about how we have the power to change the future for the best, that our struggles today will change the world for future generations and hopefully make it a better place. My own fear and uncertainty about coming out was instantly silenced when I received a message like the one posted here. It made all of my struggles worth it. The problems we face are big and can make us feel powerless, but we are stronger than we think. If we can love, listen and learn, then we will be able to unite and act to forge a better future.
