When a group of people can band together to kill an innocent life...it is still so horrifying to me and feels like some alternate reality I wouldn’t even feel comfortable reading about in a fictional book. And here it is, and has been, everywhere around us. Police tampering with their body cameras, which were put in place to hold them accountable...planting fake evidence...drawing and using their guns on unarmed children. It makes me want to SCREAM. Please, if you got this far in reading this....next time you see a stranger, look at them with fresh eyes and an open heart. Maybe it will feel scary and extremely vulnerable....but just try it and keep practicing it. They are a flawed human being, just like you, just like me, with a myriad of insecurities, struggles, family troubles....just searching for love and happiness in this life. We are all in this together. We need to stop projecting our blind assumptions about each other. Just because this person is black/white/brown, or this person wears a uniform. Give a person a chance to show you who they truly are. I am struggling to not lump people into categories of us vs. them. I really don’t want to live my life this way. But I think a lot of BIG changes need to happen. All these officers need to be held accountable, Derek Chauvin should spend the most time he possibly can off our streets (and black prison guards should be allowed to guard him), and F guns. #elijahmcclain I’m so sorry this country has failed you and your family.
