We all slept on air mattresses for 3 months and went to the same breakfast spot together every morning before hitting the studio. I hated living in LA but I really wanted to do the album with producer @mikegreenproducer so I sucked it up. I remember towards the end, we ran out of studio time and I desperately needed a place to finish writing lyrics so I was begging friends and strangers for a place to work. At one point, I ended up in the corner of someone’s dark, dirty garage recording vocal melodies. Not my ideal creative space. I was running out of time and options. Recording late night vocals after studio hours with the assistant producer, @kyleblackmusic Then, out of nowhere my best friend @curtispeoples told me about a guy who had a cool little backyard studio. So, @vienna_circle and his wife @ladybeauchamp trusted me to work in their home without ever even meeting me and for that I am forever grateful. They literally saved the album. Thank you two for lending me the keys to your home and giving me a creative place to write and finish the record. I’ll never forget the note that you left me next to a bottle of Jack Daniel’s that read, “Pull in case of writer’s block.” I learned a lot about myself while making this album. I was really exploring and testing the limits of my voice on all of these songs. I am pretty much firing at 100% for most of the record. To this day, it is still the most extreme place I’ve ever taken my vocal capability. Sometimes I listen back and think “what the fuck was I thinking?” Not really in a critical way, but more like, “how did I ever think to make some of those creative decisions back then?” It’s funny how you can never really go back and fully understand your younger self or guess what you were feeling/thinking at the time. This album took us all over the world and gave us the chance to prove ourselves as a band that we could work hard, tour our asses off and build something special with our growing fan base.
