Every year since the end of the Civil War, Juneteenth has served as a Liberation Day for Black people in the U.S. It allows a space for people to reflect on centuries of sacrifice, and reminds us that there is much more work to do. The fight to destroy the twin legacies of slavery and Jim Crow rages on, as Black people still across this country still deal with white supremacist and police violence, segregation, forced labor, mass incarceration, and poverty.
