what Juneteenth represents: A moment when the arc of history did bend toward justice. And to remember that bending in the right direction isn’t the same thing as actually reaching justice. Ending slavery did not end white supremacy or racism or the state-sanctioned oppression of black Americans. But acknowledging progress is a way to acknowledge the problems that were left unsolved.
