I’m very proud to be associated with a brand that uses their power to lead by example (see below). - In February, Bvlgari donated a state-of-the-art 3D high definition microscope to the research department of the Lazzaro Spallanzani Hospital in Rome. They were one of the first medical teams to isolate the virus in less than 48 hours, and this gift was to facilitate better understanding of the virus’ dynamics and aid vaccine development. - In March, Bvlgari converts fragrance production at its factory in Lombardy to the sole manufacture of hand sanitising gel, which it donates to the Italian authorities for distribution to medical facilities across the country for frontline staff. At this point, Bvlgari’s native Italy is the epicentre of the pandemic and Bvlgari’s factory is staffed by heroic volunteers choosing to work in spite of the lockdown. - In May, Bvlgari turns its attention to the UK, where cases are rising steeply and donates 160,000 units of hand sanitiser to the UK government, with the endorsement of Matt Hancock, for the NHS to support frontline workers. - In June and ongoing: Bvlgari establishes the Virus Free Fund, involving a significant donation to Oxford University’s Jenner Institute - Bvlgari and Oxford University embark on a new relationship to speed up vaccine development in the fight against COVID-19 and finance the studies of the world’s best talent working to prevent pandemics now and in the future. Bulgari’s donation is two-fold in nature, comprising a financial contribution to be invested in a state-of-the-art flow cytometer and the creation of the Bvlgari Scholarship to finance the PhD studies (maintenance and fees) for two scholars in vaccine research.
