STIL IN BERLINさんのインスタグラム写真 - (STIL IN BERLINInstagram)「I spent this week hiking in the Sächsische Schweiz, a mountainous national park in the South of Saxony, about 2.5 hours from Berlin. I haven’t been there since I was a kid, even though it’s a stunning region so close by. We stayed in a cabin in a forest a bit out of the way and used our days to hike to the many natural sights of the Elbsandsteingebirge. The area is rugged, with forests and meadows, and the Elbe river breaking through creating impressive valleys, and imposing rock formations. The forests are wide and deep, with moss and ferns, and many hiking paths, more or less well marked. Since the region is not very large, it can get really crowded on weekends, but during the week many paths are almost empty and you’ll have the streams and caves to yourself. Aside from the millions of ticks (which might be a 2020 issue) it’s great for dogs who like adventurous hikes with many rocks to jump and pastures to race across. I’d love to recommend this one wholeheartedly as a great way to get out of the city and into nature for a short while, but I can’t not mention that this is also an area infested with right wing extremism. Not only does the majority of the locals vote for either AfD or NPD (the even more extremist and older right-wing party), but it’s also the birthplace of one of the most violent neo-nazi groups, and racist incidents and attacks happen almost weekly. Just last month, a couple has been attacked with antisemitic slurs on one of the major sights, the Bastei bridge. So no, we didn’t encounter many PoC among the visitors or locals, however, friends of mine went and said they had no negative experiences. I appreciate if you decide to share your own experience as a PoC in the comments so we can all try to assess the situation. There are a couple of local anti-racist NGO organisations you can support, like AKuBiZ e.V., the AG Asylsuchende, and Support by RAA Sachsen e.V., who are offering consulting and help. It’s a grim situation in my home state, which makes my heart heavy because this place is so stunning and recreational, I wish it was accessible for more people.」6月19日 18時00分 - stilinberlin
