This means the 1964 Civil Rights Act legislation barring discrimination in the workplace on the basis of sex, now also protects LGBTQ+ employees from being fired because of their sexuality, gender or expression thereof. It’s. About. Time. We are still at the base of a mountain, but we stand on the shoulders of icons of resistance like Marsha P. Johnson and Silvia Rivera, who turned Stonewall from a gathering place into a movement, demanding that the humanity of LGBTQ+ people be recognized. Their power and bravery got this law to the top, but now we must grab our gear, do our push ups and carry on our shoulders and up to the peak the high rates of violence against Black trans people, the mental illness and suicide that run rampant amongst Trans teens and the lack of understanding about the basic human condition of LGBT+ people (even amongst liberal intellectuals and wizards.) But this is progress. And it is a reminder for all of us to keep up the fight so that every child, every human, may know the justice, safety, freedom, and liberation that cis white people have taken for granted for so long. Let’s work together, to shift our laws, narratives, communities and practices towards a new standard of seeing, acting, doing, and being. I’ll be by your side every step of the freaking way, praying to Marsha and Silvia 🌈 ✌️ #Pride #BlackLivesMatter #BlackTransLivesMatter #defundthepolice」6月16日 6時59分 - lenadunham
