When @barackobama was running for #potus , his Harvard roommate and my colleague, @hillharper, had invited me to a small meet & greet with the Jr. Senator from Illinois. At that point, my support was behind another Democratic candidate, Hillary Rodman Clinton, but after talking with personally #barackobama, my husband and I had a feeling of confidence about the his leadership and how he could bring people in this country together in a way I had dreamt of for years. In my line of work, my heart has been opened by colleagues from every walk of life, performing artists who are passionate humanists, industry leaders who are progressive and audiences open to all points of view. My values were embodied in his candidacy. His partner in life, @michelleobama , impressed me as much he did. The guests I attended their campaign ‘debut’ at Oprah Winfrey’s estate were vibrant with the dream of equality coming true as the promise of Americans electing a Black man to the highest office in the land. With determination I campaigned for him, with joy and humility I attended his inauguration and celebrated with all kinds of fellow citizens in DC on that crystal clear weekend. I watched with gratitude his commitment to environmental protections, #lgbtq🌈 human rights, #guncontrol. On #ObamaDay remember that he was elected during a major financial crisis he pulled us out of and managed to sign many landmark bills into law during his first two years in office. The main reforms that were passed include the #PatientProtection #Affordable CareAct to as the #Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, and the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010.
