Standing here, 6 weeks postpartum: this is me. I was very lenient with myself during the course of my pregnancy. I indulged almost every craving, and gained a significant amount of weight. And that’s okay. I’m not obsessing over dieting or punishing my body back into shape. But I am very conscious of what I’m putting into my body so I can be the new best version of myself that I can be. As someone who struggles with severe self-image issues, it’s vital that I work to get to a place that I am proud of..not merely from a point of vanity, but because it is imperative that I love what I see in the mirror, so I can be in the best state of mind not only for myself but for my child. I’m not going to get back to my pre-baby body overnight, and that’s okay. I have new stretch marks, a new pants size and curves I never had before..and that’s okay. What matters is that I’m taking the steps necessary to nourish and strengthen my body. I’m being patient and kind to myself, because it’s not easy starting over. And day by day, I’m learning to love my new body, because it brought precious life into this world, and there is nothing more beautiful than that.
