Let’s keep building unity and solidarity. Not only because the Black community has always been advocating for us from the very beginning, but because it’s the right thing to do. The fear of speaking up because we might make our family a target is something that comes from our parents’ generation. They had to stay silent to in order to survive the Cambodian genocide. It’s time to break that fear and silence. We are in a position where speaking up against anti-blackness is our right and duty. #blacklivesmatter
And to be honest, I am feeling so much fear and discomfort speaking up, but I know it’s because I was taught that I am only safe when I am silent. Let’s work through all this together. Please keep joining me in this work.

I’m taking Southeast Asian diaspora, particularly Khmers, to task. When the US did not want to admit us, Black Americans came out in support (see image with statement and list of prominent names, including Coretta Scott King). Show up like they did for us. [Photo is from my visit to the NYPL archives.] Thanks in advance for crediting me for the photo and my labor.
