I want to continue to learn how to be a better ally for the Black Lives Matter movement and keep that momentum by diversifying my reading list. I just finished Between the World And Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, which was eye opening.⁣ ⁣ This book is a letter to his 15 year old son. He opens up about his childhood in Baltimore where fear and violence was conditioned at a young age, explains his new found sense of freedom of expression at Howard University, and then describes the crippling panic of feeling incapable of protecting your own child. ⁣ ⁣ It’s intimate, deeply personal, and has given me a new sense of empathy. I still have so much to learn, but my favorite way to educate myself is through reading. My next book I’m reading is The New Jim Crow.
