We extend our deepest condolences to the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade and the many others who have died at the hands of police brutality. To the family of Ahmaud Arbery, we cry out for justice in the wake of your loved one being senselessly slain. Our hearts are broken for America, our children, our husbands, our families, friends, loved ones, supporters and those who have endured systematic oppression for far too long. We too have experienced racism in various forms. From being disregarded to disrespected, we have not been exempt from discrimination, racial bias, hateful commentary or the hurdles of being Black in America. We too have felt the pain of NOT BEING HEARD and even facing racism during our reign/year of service. For these reasons, we have decided we will be deliberate about building others. In our own ways, we have committed our lives to using our voices and platforms to amplify social issues that matter. It is our collective hope that immense and immediate changes will prevail. To the peaceful protestors, we stand with you. To the activists and organizers, we see you and applaud your work. To the young women who have been influenced by our legacies and impacted by the Miss America Organization, we encourage you to remain focused, believe in the power of your pursuit to be a woman of excellence and continue making a positive difference in your communities. To be an ally in this time will take more than word; it will demand deed. As individuals, we must speak up, use economic power and use our vote to BE THE CHANGE we wish to see. Companies & organizations we have grown to love, including our beloved Miss America Organization, must change from the inside out. Leadership, whether Executive, Administrative or Board level, must begin to directly reflect the diversity of our country as we create a more inclusive normal.
