There isn’t a good reason for a monument to a slave trader not to be anywhere but at the bottom of the river. I’d love to see a memorial in its place to the 84,000 Africans including 12,000 children of whom over 19,000 died. And I hope in future it is apparent that a statue of a slave trader describing him as a virtuous benefactor is entirely inappropriate and a disgusting affront long before it’s down to the people to remove it. #bristol #uk black lives matter 🇬🇧
