We've read this book many times before, but yesterday when we read it, we read it with passion 🤎.⁣ ⁣ As you know I always talk to A about what's going on especially when it directly relates to him/us. We talked about the protests & why it was important. Then we made our posters & off we went to march.⁣ ⁣ Some of his questions/concerns after we read the book yesterday:⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ - Mom, will they put me in jail for protesting like the kids in the book?⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ - How long did the kids march for?⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ - Will they spray water hoses at us and let the dogs bite us?⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ - Mom, I don't want to be shooted by the police. I don't want to be dead.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ - I wish everyone would be nice to everyone so we don't even have to march.⁣ ⁣ My poor mama heart 😢. Even just typing this out is bringing me to tears.⁣ ⁣ PS: I did not tell Aiden what to write on his poster. I asked him how he was feeling, and what message he wanted to send across. He did that all by himself!! But y'all, why should my SEVEN YEAR OLD even have to do this?? Ugh😢!⁣ ⁣ I shared this book & many other's over a year ago on my feed & encouraged you all to find a copy & read it to your children. Some of you probably thought to yourself, "What's the point, there's no racism, she's tripping." I hope that now your blinders are off & you see why I shared those books in the first place.⁣ ⁣ If you've been following me for a while then you already know how I passionate I am about Diversity & teaching my Black son about Black history. You also know that I encourage others to diversify too.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ This whole "Black Lives Matter" isn't a 1 day, 1 week or 1 month thing for me. THIS IS MY EVERYDAY LIFE!!⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ So, I hope you'll do more than just read to your children! I hope you'll do your part in raising global diverse children who understand that no one should be judged by the color of their skin.⁣⁣ ⁣ Please don't solely rely on me or anyone else to teach/tell you what to do 🤦🏾‍♀️.
