She would have turned 27, but unlike Sebastien who can celebrate and be with his family today, Breonna won’t be able to. Last March 13th, plain-clothed officiers from the Louisville Police Department entered her home during a no-warning illegal raid and shot her 8 times while she slept in our own bed. The suspect they were trying to apprehend was already in police’s custody and the authorities didn’t find any drugs in her residence. As we write this, no one has been arrested or charged. Let’s take a moment together to honor her as well as all the other lives tragically lost because of a pandemic that has been afflicting the African-American community in the US and black people everywhere for years: the oppressive and targeted use of force by police officers.
