So I did. And a certain poetry distribution company in Minnesota made me an offer I had to refuse. This particular company, who to date hasn't paid me a penny for the Missy Elliott poem with over 150k views, offered me a "standard" contract that included taking 85% of my royalties and an additional 50% of my future licensing, along with assigning them the rights to the intellectual property. That meant if I were going to perform the poems in the future, I'd need permission from them. Silence doesn't change the ethics of an industry built on under paying for black art.
