#blackdancerslivesmatter #equalityinthedanceworld Meet @legs_4_lyfe, a dancer of color, currently dances with TanzCompany in Austria. This is a little bit of his journey:
“My journey has been a symbol of Diversity. From training at Debbie Allen Dance Academy to The Alvin Ailey School to Complexions Contemporary Ballet & now TanzCompany Innsbruck in Austria. Europe is a completely different story on how they handle race but the path that I chose limited the appearances of racial injustices. There are multiple obstacles that one must push through in the dance community: Being Male ~ Being Black & Male ~ Choosing Ballet while being Black and Male ~ Potential loss of parental/a family support ~ and knowing that most companies IN THE WORLD will only hire a small number of non-whites in order complete their “black quota”. I applaud all my brown and black sisters and brothers out in the dance community who feel alone in their institutions/organizations. Just know that we are paving the way for the next generation of Dancers, Artistic Directors, Executive Directors and CEOs!!”
