In South Africa, black people were only given the right to vote in 1994. This took place between the 26th and 29th April, two days after I was born. That’s how recent these laws have been in place. My white ancestors used their privilege to oppress and conquer. I must use my privilege to be part of the change. It breaks my heart to know that 26 years after Nelson Mandela took office - a person who sacrificed so much to fight for equality - we have hardly changed a thing. I must and will do more. Enough is enough. Black lives matter.
