And yet in our industry and in the country as a whole, the social construct of race divides us, privileging "Whiteness" and vilifying, oppressing, and killing Black and Brown bodies for being Black and Brown. As African Americans grieve yet another senseless murder of an unarmed innocent, White people have a responsibility to look closely at those divisions, to see how they benefit us, where they live in us (and they do), and to speak up. It's not enough to not be racist. We have to be anti-racist. We have to put it into action. We have to have uncomfortable conversations about our biases with ourselves and other White people. We have to support anti-racist legislation. We have to amplify the voices of those who are silenced by the system. Actors are particularly well-suited for this kind of work.
