Up until that point, he refused to look back, because his musical philosophy was all about moving forward…but after my dear brother Claude Nobs (the founder of @montreuxjazzfestival) & I sat & talked with Miles in his apartment in NY, about how much this music needed to be played live, he agreed. Conducting Gil’s orchestrations for Miles at Montreux in ’91 was one of the most gratifying experiences of my career. From looking up to Miles when I was just a rugrat, to being able to perform with him live was an absolute gift…We wound up winning the Best Large Jazz Ensemble Performance Grammy on “Miles & Quincy Live at Montreux” & little did I know, the day this photo was taken would be our last performance together…He passed away 3 months later. This year will be the 1st time in its history that MJF won’t be taking place, understandably due to the circumstances, but maan, I know Miles’s music & spirit is still kickin’ it in that beautiful city & every other corner of this planet. Happy Birthday Miles!!…The one whose wit can’t be outwit!!」5月27日 12時22分 - quincyjones
