He skipped 3rd grade & 5th, They did things like that back then - instead of giving you extra work they just moved you ahead. Both of his older brothers were fighting in World War II. Usually, they wouldn’t send a third son into battle. Persistent and proud, as soon as he turned 18 my dad joined the US Navy. He was stationed in Pearl Harbor Hawaii.
