The Guggenheim may be closed, but our cherry tomatoes, part of the exhibition #CountrysideTheFuture, continue to thrive—and feed people all over New York City.
David Litvin, an indoor crop specialist from 80 Acres Farms, tends the plants daily, controlling the temperature, humidity, and amount of “daytime” the tomatoes get. While they are not raised on a diet of sunshine and rainwater, they taste (and smell!) like the best juicy ones found in backyards in August. Every Wednesday, a City Harvest van is loaded with about 3,000 tomatoes, still on the vine.
