At the same time as we’re feeling sad we didn’t get the ending we hoped for due to the global pandemic, we’re also very moved with joy and pride about our accomplishments. My own journey towards achieving Bachelor’s Degree started already in 2008 at the University of Tampere (economics). Soon after traveling for skating around the world took over and I had to pause my studies. In 2018, after having moved to NYC, I found @thenewschool and its bachelor’s program for adults and transfer students. That school and that program (liberal arts) suited perfectly to me with its flexibility + I was able to transfer most of my credits from Tampere. I’m so grateful to have had the experience to study both in Finland and the US, and gain valuable friendships and learnings. I’m not yet sure where this degree or life will take me, but I hope my skills and gifts will continue to be of service to this world in different ways. What my time at The New School taught me the most was to look at life and society (also the sports world) through the lenses of social justice, creativity and love.
