When I was 16 my mom went out to dinner for Valentine’s Day with my step dad. I had one of my very first dates, and told her to go ahead and I’d be home for curfew. When she came back I was in the living room watching a movie and she asked why I was still home. I had been stood up, but that I was ok. She said, well this calls for ice cream, and she took me to get a scoop. She didn’t pry or get mad at the situation. She let me talk when I wanted to. So I cried in the car, and she held my hand until I felt better and looked me square in the face, “Ahhh fuck em. You don’t need him anyway” and we laughed and laughed until our bellies hurt. Happy Mother’s Day mommy. You taught me to be a fighter from the jump. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
