Do you feel safer?
The researchers behind this analysis say “This needs further study, and I hope our work will stimulate interest in this area” even though it really should say, “more data saying to take your damn vitamin D3.”
.

That’s great if you are protecting your tenure or your grants from pharmaceutical companies. It is absolute crap if you want to do the thing that has the highest likelihood of helping you now instead of years from now. .

That is the difference between pharmaceutical researchers and functional medicine clinical practice. On the first news of the pandemic, nearly all functional medicine practitioners said “make sure your vitamin D levels are adequate.”
.

You don’t have to have a specific study to know when something is likely to work enough to recommend it as the best course of action. It is only fear or self interest that stops us from recommending the best course of action given what we know. .
There is nothing better than clinical experience to guide us until there are conclusive academic studies.
.
.
It is cowardly and evil to tell people to “do nothing until we have more evidence“ because what works best is “Do what we think works given the evidence we have right now. Course correct later.”
.
.
In the case of vitamin D, there is overwhelming evidence supporting higher levels of vitamin D - I like to keep mine around 70. There is also some evidence that vitamin D can increase the number of ACE2 receptors(bad for #covid), however I do not believe that the hypothetical risk of that is higher than the known benefits.
.
.
It is your right to look at the available evidence and choose the best course of action for you. It is your right to believe any expert you want, including your doctor, some random government agency telling you to do nothing until its sponsors have a drug to sell you, or God forbid you believe your own research! 🙀
